About Lon
For 42 years as a Vermont attorney, I’ve represented the people of this community: families, the elderly, people with disabilities, and small businesses, alongside larger institutions. I helped people probate estates, establish guardianships, secure disability benefits, and handle matters of real estate, employment, and contracts.
I also represented many local nonprofits, often at no charge, because I believe deeply in the organizations that hold our community together.
Serving as your Probate Judge
At one point in my life, I wanted to be a high school history teacher, and that instinct to explain, to guide, and to make hard things understandable has stayed with me on the bench. The cases that come to Probate Court are rarely simple. They involve aging parents, vulnerable adults, and children who need protection.
My commitment is to a court that is fair to everyone, accessible to everyone, and accountable to the community it serves. That is the work I hope to continue.

Thank you for your consideration.
There is more to share about my qualifications and my vision for the court.
I have spent my career in the law and in service to the people of Bennington County, first as a practicing attorney and now as your Probate Judge.
This is home. It is where I met my wife, Maureen, where we raised our sons, and where I have spent more than four decades helping families and individuals through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
A Lifetime of Service in Bennington County, Vermont
Since being sworn in, I have had the privilege of serving as Probate Judge for Bennington County. It is demanding and deeply human work.
The Probate Court handles guardianships, the probating of estates, adoptions, name changes, and more, and most of the people who come before it do not have a lawyer.
A great deal of my work is helping people understand what the law and the court require, and making sure that every person, whether or not they have an attorney, is treated with patience, dignity, and respect.
