Qualifications
Over more than four decades in the law and in public service, I have worked to earn the trust of the people of Bennington County. Here is a summary of my background, my service on the bench, and my work in the community.
On the Bench
Probate Judge, Bennington County. Sworn in on February 1, 2023. I preside over guardianships, the probating of estates, adoptions, name changes, and related matters, with a focus on treating every person who comes before the court with fairness and respect.
Legal Career
42 years as a practicing Vermont attorney. Over the course of my career I represented families, the elderly, people with disabilities, and small businesses, as well as larger institutions. My work included probating estates, guardianships, disability benefits, real estate, employment, and contract matters. I also served many local nonprofits, frequently without charge.
Professional Responsibility
I served for six years on Vermont's Professional Responsibility Program, including as chair of a hearing panel addressing attorney conduct. For years I also taught legal ethics and professional conduct to fellow attorneys.
Community and Public Service
My commitment to Bennington County extends well beyond the courtroom. My service has included:
Chair, Shaftsbury Select Board
Member, Shaftsbury Development Review Board
Justice of the Peace, and Chair of Shaftsbury's Board of Civil Authority
Board service with local and statewide organizations, including BROC Community Action, PAVE,
Oldcastle Theatre Company, and the Vermont Bar Foundation
