Vision Statement
My vision is a Probate Court that every family in Bennington County can trust: fair in its decisions, welcoming to those who arrive
without a lawyer, and accountable to the community it serves.
My mission
The Probate Court touches people at some of the hardest moments of their lives, when a loved one is aging, when a family is grieving, when a child needs protection. My mission is to bring experience, steadiness, and genuine care to that work, so that everyone who comes before the court is heard, treated with dignity, and given a fair process, whether or not they have an attorney at their side.
The Values that Guide My Work
For more than four decades, in private practice and on the bench, these are the values I have tried to bring to every case.
Integrity - Doing what is right, consistently and transparently, so people can have confidence in the court's decisions.
Fairness - Giving every person an equal opportunity to be heard, and applying the law evenly to everyone who comes before the court.
Compassion - Recognizing that probate matters are deeply personal, and meeting people with patience and understanding during difficult times.
Accessibility - Keeping the court within reach of everyone, including those without a lawyer, by explaining what the law requires and keeping hearings open and in person.
Accountability - Answering to the families and community of Bennington County, and holding the court to the highest standard of service.
